Is the geographic location of the hosting server on which a website resides considered important ?

I am building %26amp; about to set up my first website. I am based in Canada but can get good offers on hosting from just about anywhere. Should I stick to Canada when picking a hosting service or does this just not matter?

Reply:Probably won't matter, if you're in a legitimate business.

If you're a spammer, they'll hunt you down and (hopefully) break your server and keyboard, if not your knees. In that case, you want to go with a Caribbean, Russian or Chinese server. And pray they don't find you anyway.

If you're running an online casino, they'll hunt you down and throw you in jail for running an illegal business. In that case, you want a Caribbean server, or perhaps Russian or Chinese.

If you're selling Viagra (or other pharmaceuticals), property in Costa Rica, work at home "business" opportunities, or stock alerts and tips, do us all a favor and just re-think it, OK?

But other than that, it probably won't matter much.
